NASCA LINES TOUR DESCRIPTION:

Mysterious Nazca Lines of Peru are undoubtedly the most famous geoglyphs in the world. They were drawn in the area of Nazca desert called Pampa Colorada (Red Plain), over the area that is 24 kilometers (15 miles) wide and 60 kilometers (37 miles) long. It is definitely one of the best Tours in Peru, and your Peru Vacation.
The lines were created by Nazca Indians, from 200 BC to about 600 AD. We can tell that from the tools found in the area and from many remains of their civilization (cities, graves, etc.). But nobody knows for sure why they bothered to make figures and shapes so big that they could be seen only from the air, in time when there were no airplanes. This is still a mystery, after so many years of scientific investigation and many theories about the purpose of those famous Nazca drawings.

German mathematician and archaeologist Maria Reiche is the most famous scientist who researched Nazca Lines for many years, and she concluded that lines are some kind of Astronomical Calender. Maria Reiche died in 1995 at the age of 95, and was buried in Nazca.
She devoted her life to Peru and to Nazca Lines, spending more than 50 years of her life studying, documenting and preserving the lines for future generations. The place she was buried is near the desert and is a little museum now, where you can see Maria's pictures, drawings, Nazca Ceramics, Pre Inca Mummies and some other object she used in her investigation of famous Nazca drawings.
Thanks to Maria Reiche's dedication and tireless work, Nazca Lines were placed under UNESCO protection in 1995, and became very important in Peru Tourism.

NAZCA LINES TOUR ITINERARY:

We will pick you up from your Hotel early in the morning - at 4:30 am - and drive to Nazca in our new, air-conditioned minivans.
Our first stop will be the observation tower, just few kilometers before Nazca. From there you will be able to see two of Nazca geoglyphs (Hands and Tree).
We will continue driving for 20 more minutes, and upon arrival to small Maria Reiche Airport you will have a chance to see these mysterious lines from the air, a truly unique experience, something you definitely must include in your Visit to Peru.
Flight duration is aprox. 35 minutes, and since you will have your own window on the plane there will be plenty time for excellent photographs of all main Nazca drawings.

Once you finish the flight over Nazca Lines we will take you to Chauchilla Cementery, where you will be able to see impressive Chauchilla pre Inca Mummies. The necropolis is located 28 km from Nazca and is the only place where you can see Peruvian Mummies in their original thumbs. This is a place where you can get your perfect Mummy Picture - a trully unique place on your travel in Peru.

After that visit we will take short lunch break (not included), and continue with our activities visiting pre-Inca Cantalloc Aqueducts. Thanks to that masterpiece of ancient engineering, the Nazca Indians could have water all year long - something essential for agricultural society.

On our way back to Lima we will stop in the desert town of Ica, and visit famous Huacachina Oasis and Lagoon, another beautiful place to travel in Peru!

From there we will continue our return to Lima, leaving you at your Hotel or apartment.
