Pachacamac Ruins
Pachacamac Ruins are located hust 31 km (19,25 mi) to the south of peruvian capital Lima, in the valley of Lurin River.
Those ruins still conserve the mysticism and religiosity of their past.
The worshipped image of the god Pachacamac has been conserved until now.
Pachacamac was main pre-Inca and pre columbian adoration and ceremonial center of the inhabitants of the valley of Rímac in which the God Pachacámac was venerated, long before Spanish conquerors arrived, and long before incas, as early as 200 AD, being the Huari Empire the most known of them, a very important peruvian pre columbian civilization.
Pachacámac was the God 'creator of life and universe'.
Spanish accounts indicate Pachacamac was one of the holiest shrines in the central Andes, in the time of Incas and the Inca Empire.
The Pachacamac deity survived the Inca Empire and Spanish Conquests. With the arrival of Christianity, it was later bound up with the Christ of Pachacamilla, the painting known as the Lord of Miracles.
The Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro heard about Pachacamac from Inca King Atahualpa, while holding him as prisoner in Cajamarca in 1532.
An expedition was sent immediately to sack the incas center, seizing a large amount of silver and gold from the site.
Even today many people feel astonished when walking by the halls of Acllahuasi (house prepared for the chosen inca girls), Temple of the pyramids and the Temple of the Sun. It is a must in your Lima Travel Plan, definitely one of the best Peru Tours near peruvian capital.
The site of Pachacamac has been well preserved, and one of the Inca Empire structures, the Mamacuna, has been reconstructed.
It is well worth of paying a visit, probably one of best Peru tours you can take from Lima, together with Lima City Tour.
There is an on-site museum, rather small but very interesting.
The archaeological complex of Pachacamac overlooks the San Pedro beach and the town of Lurín, famous for shrimp dishes and 'chicharrones', fried pork with 'mote' corn - a very popular peruvian dish.
You can have your lunch there, it is located just few kilometers down the old Pan-American Highway.
